In the vast and competitive world of YouTube, content creators are constantly seeking ways to grow their subscriber base. One method that has gained significant traction recently is leveraging YouTube Shorts. These short, bite-sized videos have been proven to be a powerful tool for increasing views and subscribers rapidly. If you're looking to reach that coveted 1,000 subscriber milestone, YouTube Shorts might just be the secret weapon you've been searching for.

However, before you dive headfirst into creating Shorts, it's important to understand that success is not guaranteed. There's a right way and a wrong way to approach this strategy. To illustrate this, let's take a look at my personal experience.

        On a recently started YouTube channel with zero subscribers, I decided to test the effectiveness of YouTube Shorts. Within the first 28 days of posting my first Short, it garnered an impressive 7,405 views. Encouraged by this initial success, I tried again with another Short, which accumulated 32.1 thousand views in its first 28 days. These results were promising, but I knew I could do better.

      For my third YouTube Short, I decided to try something completely different. Within the first hour of posting it, the Short received a staggering 76,000 views. To date, that Short has amassed over two million views and 6,600 subscribers. Had I utilized this approach from day one, I could have achieved 1,000 subscribers in just nine days. Although it took me 28 days to reach that milestone on my channel, I'm confident I can help others get there even faster.

        It's no secret that YouTube Shorts are currently receiving significant exposure through the platform's algorithm. As a result, if you start posting Shorts, especially as a beginner, chances are you'll garner more views than with your regular long-form videos. However, what many people fail to realize is that Shorts also convert more subscribers than their long-form counterparts.

        Let's examine the proof. On my channel, I posted a regular long-form video that gained one million views within the first 62 days. From those one million views, it generated 1,241 subscribers. Now, let's compare that with a YouTube Short that achieved a million views within the first 19 days. On that same day, the Short garnered a whopping 3,910 new subscribers. This indicates that Shorts can potentially attract three times as many subscribers as regular videos.

Now that we've established the effectiveness of YouTube Shorts, let's delve into why my first two Shorts didn't perform as well as the third one. For those initial Shorts, I didn't invest much thought or effort. I simply used the clip method on my phone, which allowed me to extract a portion of my long-form content and add some text. While these Shorts did reasonably well initially, they eventually tapered off and didn't deliver sustained performance.

In contrast, my third viral YouTube Short was created entirely from scratch, with dedicated time spent on scripting and editing. The additional effort proved to be completely worthwhile, resulting in exceptional performance. Allow me to share the exact steps I followed and how you can replicate this success.

" Ensure that the Short you create aligns with your channel's target audience. YouTube will recommend your Short to viewers who already watch your videos. Engaging your existing audience is crucial to increase the chances of YouTube promoting your Short to a wider audience. As an example, since my channel focuses on basketball and the NBA, I made sure my YouTube Short revolved around that subject."

Step 2: Research: 

"Study viral Shorts in your niche. Take note of their themes, editing styles, pacing, text usage, music, and overall format. Analyze the data to identify what works best within your niche. I discovered a specific format that performed exceptionally well in the basketball niche, and I decided to apply it to my Short."

Step 3: Idea Generation:

" Consider what your viewers want to watch and reverse-engineer a video that will captivate the majority of your target audience. An effective strategy to gain more views is trend surfing. Incorporate influential keywords, names, and brands in your title and video to tap into existing trends."

Step 4: Scripting: 

"Craft a concise script, eliminating any unnecessary fluff. Shorts are brief and demand quick delivery, so get straight to the point. If you have a lengthy script or wish to condense a long-form video into a Short, consider using ChatGPT to summarize and shorten the content effectively."

Step 5: Shooting:

 "While gear doesn't play a significant role in Shorts, prioritize audio quality over video quality. If possible, vary your shots and locations throughout the video to maintain viewer interest."

Step 6: Editing:

     Aim for a high average view duration by creating engaging content that compels viewers to watch until the end. The "loop method" can be particularly effective. This technique involves synchronizing the ending of the video with its beginning, creating a seamless loop that encourages repeated viewing. Additionally, consider the duration of your Short. Longer Shorts ranging from 40 to 60 seconds can be effective, as long as you keep the audience entertained throughout. Avoid stretching the content artificially to increase its length; concise and engaging Shorts perform better.

The YouTube algorithm currently prioritizes Shorts and actively seeks the right Shorts for the right audience. When viewers discover your long-form videos, it boosts the visibility of your Shorts to those who enjoy your regular content. This will help YouTube understand the context of your video and recommend it to viewers interested in similar content."

Engage with the audience: 

"Building a community around your channel is vital for long-term success. Encourage viewers to leave comments, and make sure to respond to their comments and engage in meaningful conversations. This interaction not only fosters a sense of community but also signals to YouTube that your channel is active and deserving of promotion."

Promote your Shorts on other platforms:

" Take advantage of your presence on other social media platforms to promote your YouTube Shorts. Share snippets or teasers of your Shorts on platforms like Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook, with a link directing viewers to watch the full video on your YouTube channel. This cross-promotion can help drive more traffic and increase your subscriber count."

Collaborate with other creators:

" Collaborating with other YouTubers in your niche can significantly boost your exposure. Look for opportunities to collaborate on Shorts or feature each other's content. This allows you to tap into each other's audiences and potentially gain new subscribers who are interested in your content."

Consistency is key: 

"Regularly posting Shorts can help you maintain momentum and increase your chances of reaching 1,000 subscribers faster. Aim for a consistent posting schedule, whether it's daily, every few days, or weekly. This not only keeps your channel active but also signals to the YouTube algorithm that you are consistently producing content and should be recommended to viewers."
